What are the risks people have when they won’t work with personal accessories?

Good posture at your desk is extremely important. It seems tempting to slump in your chair while working, but it is certainly not healthy. A bad work posture can cause quite annoying complaints. Do you have pain in your upper back, neck, shoulders, arms, wrists, hands, or fingers? Then it could just be that these are RSI complaints.
Known complaints due to a bad working environment
An office or home environment can cause a lot of complaints that are different from physical work. Working almost 100% indoors, largely in a seated position sitting at the computer, answering the phone, or writing, paves the way for some of the major complaints such as back and neck pain, eyestrain, hand, and hand pain. and wrist joints, to develop.

In addition, complaints can also arise because of factors such as poor ventilation, lighting, or air quality itself, which are factors that people are not immediately inclined to notice or think about.

As recent studies have recently shown, we generally also work longer than a few years ago. But if we continue to work longer and longer, then it has become a necessity that we pay more attention to how we can avoid these complaints.
1. RSI complaints
RSI is a collective name for muscle and joint complaints of the hands, wrists, arms, shoulders, or neck. RSI is the abbreviation for Repetitive Strain Injury. This means, an injury from a repetitive strain.

RSI often occurs in professions where the same actions are often performed in succession. Some well-known examples are office workers, cashier, or assembly line workers. In the Netherlands, about 3.2 million people suffer from RSI complaints every year.

When you spend a lot of time in front of your laptop or computer, you put a lot of strain on your fingers, wrists, arms, shoulders, and neck during the working day. This can impair blood flow. You can recognise RSI complaints by tingling, cold or dead feeling or mild pain. These complaints can even worsen to chronic pain and stiffness. The danger of RSI lies in its insidious course. No one is surprised by a sore wrist or cold fingers. Often the complaints also decrease when you are not at work. Over time, however, the pain may persist, and loss of strength may occur.
2. A disturbed digestion
What is very bad for your health is sitting all day. Sitting for extended periods of time compresses the digestive organs and makes them unable to function ideally. This is not good for the digestive process.

3. Your mood deteriorates
Bad posture has been proven to negatively affect mood. Those who work sedentary for longer periods show a higher degree of depression. Those who sit more than 7 hours a day have a 47% higher risk of depression than those who sit 4 hours or less. If you sit still, your energy level decreases, affecting your mood.

4. Bad posture affects the way people look at you
As much as we would like to maintain a “don't judge by appearances” attitude, the reality is that we all do this from time to time. Bad attitude affects the way others look at you. For example, when you're hunched over your desk, your colleagues may assume you're tired or uninterested.

5. Your performance is declining
When you present yourself in a positive way, you improve your attitude to work and increase alertness. In addition, this reduces fatigue, and you can work more productively. A good presentation of yourself therefore has advantages for you, but also for your employer.

6. Prolonged sitting can lead to varicose veins (especially in women)
Sitting still for extended periods can lead to the formation of varicose veins, especially in women. This is due to increased pressure from sitting and a lack of blood circulation throughout the body.

Other common complaints:
  • Increased stress levels;
  • Increased risk of heart disease, obesity, diabetes, cancer and even premature death;
  • Sitting all day increases your risk of a heart attack.
